3 of the BBEst

BBE is arguably my favourite music label (there is one other contender). The peepz over there consitantly manage to put out some superb releases across all genres. With this in mind i thought i'd share three of my favourite, and perhaps less obvious, releases. The first is from Marc Mac of the living legends that are 4 Hero. Dirty Old Remixes is basically, a collection of remixes (obviously) of a selection of songs from his Dirty Old Hip Hop. The 12 Beats & Denz remixes of Funkbox are a particular favourite.

We then come to Dobie's The Sound Of One Hand Clapping 2.5. Previously released via another label, Dobie adds a couple of instrumental tracks and remixes a few of the originals to great effect. By far & away the standout on here has to be Consider, featuring the irrepressable Rodney P dropping gem after gem about fake thugs, girls & life in general. Rassia also impresses over the lovely sunday afternoon chill out groove Coming Up For Air. The scratches and vocal samples used on the instrumental tracks are well used and not just thrown around.  well worth a look.

Finally, MC/Songwriter/producer, Krewcial's debut 25/8 (his sons birthday). This is superb. It may also feature the talents of Oh No, Murs, phonte & Kazi, but Krew more than holds his own in every aspect of this album. His production style is similar to Jaydee. That last sentence should have you clicking the link by now, if you don't already have a copy.

Smooth Move Mr. Dean

CL Smooth's American Me is a real nice piece of work in itself. But Gensu Dean has decided to put his own spin on proceedings (well.... 9 of the tracks anyway) and the results are  real nice. 9 boom bap head nods to get that neck snapping. On a few of the tracks, most notably Terrorism one & All We Ever Know, there is more than a hint of a Pete Rock influence floating around. This is not a bad thing as it only adds to the niceness of the beats as a whole. This Gensu blade clearly knows how to make some nice cuts (i'm sorry i could'nt help myself). Grab it.

Newsflash: Missin' Link Found

Al Tariq, BlackAttack & Problemz put out this 6 track EP on Stimulated Records in 2000. A steller production list for an EP too. Necro, V.I.C & The Alchemist all drop a gem on 'em, while Juju and the verbal machine gun that is Freedie Foxxx don't disappoint. It Might be worth noting that these boys never actually released an album so it's definately worth checking out.

Mega Dumb Free Shit

GOD DAMN FRILLZ! Busier than a bumble bee making honey up in this mutha! I feel like ive been neglecting the blog. infact I almost certainly have....
So I dont know how many of you know about Children of The Damned, a small hip hop collective brimming with talented mc's and beatmakers, 2 particular people from this crew, known only as Mr.Wrong and Flash4Dem, have put together an EP that is simply dope-tastic, full of flavourous rhymes and crunched up smash-ya-face-in-with-a-crowbar beats... enjoy ya worthless bums

It's Magic

Just thought i'd drop this for you peepz. a superb collection of remixes by the superb 20syl, of the equally superb Hocus Pocus. The MCs are french but the beats more than hold there own. Those in the know probably know about these boys already. To those that don't. grab this then get hold of The albums, 73 Touches & Place 54, which are both full of brilliantly soulful hip hop. Enjoy.

Ric Branson (of the Universal Soldiers) last hurrah. I've always loved Slanguage album (UK heads should have that by now) and lyrically this in the same vein. Proper street talk with some jewels thrown in for good measure, done over some superb beats. For this outing Ric stands alone and has called in a lot of favours on the production front and he wasn't let down either. Braintax, DJ IQ and Sundragon all chip in while Evil Ed holds down most of the Disc. A real nice way to end an era i'd say.

Ralph Rips It

Associated minds are the $@%# as far as i'm concerned and this EP from one of their own is no exception. While being laced with some serious firepower by the likes of Apollo, Secondson & Matt Gloss (UK heads should know by now) Ralph stays true to his name (Ralph Rip Shit) & delivers some hard yet witty rhymes to wet the apetite for what surely will be a must have longplayer. As far as i'm concerned there all great tracks but Kiss The Guns uses the title as a great analogy to fool you initially since he actually lets rip (sorry...) about his arms. 5 tracks in all ft Dubbledge & Pergyl to make your head nod and press rewind a couple of times to catch what being said.  When's the album coming Ralph. Grab this, enjoy it, then go out and buy the Metaphysical album so you can enjoy more of the same.

The Bloq Is Hot!

Bloquera: Thes One & (some of) Giant Panda go on a trip to Baja. Armed with 2 video cameras & some sunshine  they document there trip. They record a couple of tracks, like what they hear, and record a few more.  They end up with 5 in total and put them out for the masses. A Superb EP. But with Thes One & Sir Kado on the beats it was always gonna be anyway. If you like anything that comes out of the Tres household (and lets be honest most of it is superb) you need this.

Sit. Rep. On Renaissance

Simply put, a real nice EP. All Tracks are produced by Thaione himself and based on this evidence, i'm surprised he doesn't have a lot more production credits to his name. Ahhh well... we can all still enjoy this release anyway. Get it while it's hot.
